2013 Team Arequipa Internship Overview
Internship Overview:
A cross-cultural immersion learning experience that engages the student in missiological theory and practice. The purpose of the internship is to help the student to perceive the nature and scope of long-term cross-cultural mission work. Emphasis is given to cultural intelligence, language acquisition, contextual evangelism, the dimensions of holistic ministry, and spiritual disciplines. Field workers will guide the student in the spiral between practice and reflection.
Primary Objectives:
- To cultivate the student’s inner life.
- To navigate the challenges of culture grief.
- To increase the student’s cultural intelligence.
- To build missions competencies specific to Peru and thereby perform case studies in missions principles and practices.
- To build holistic ministry competencies.
- To expand the student’s vision of the kingdom of God and its implications for Christian mission.
Secondary Objectives:
- To strengthen the Peruvian church
- To collect data on Peruvian culture
- To help the student attain a clearer vision of how God is calling him or her to live missionally.
On-field Requirements:
- Abide by internship policies.
- Complete reading, journaling, language, and practical assignments.
- Participate actively in group discussions and lead one group discussion.
- Attend scheduled meetings with one’s assigned mentor.
- Complete all shadowing assignments (TBD at orientation).
